I enjoyed reading this column, Tim. I don’t follow baseball but your indignation is palpable. Hope the baseball gods take notice and implement some of your suggestions.
Amen! I’ve given up watching playoff and World Series games (unless the Cardinals are playing) because of the late starting times and soooo many commercials between innings that cause the games to be about 4 hours long (and me to doze off). Money, money, money that’s the name of the game now. Who cares how long it takes as long as we can get those commercials in. I’ll tell you who. Me! But I’m just an old geezer. I consider myself a longtime baseball fan, but for me it’s easier to watch the highlights the next day than to watch a 3+ hour game. Or record a game and zip through it to get to the good parts. As for the other changes you mentioned: Zombie runners? wtf! The shift? It’ll go away once batters learn to “hit it ’em where they ain’t” and quit trying for a homer every pitch. Even in the MLB catchers are using electronic wristbands. My reaction: “Meh.” Electronic strike zone? Yes! Some of these umps have no idea where the strike zone is and is not. As for a change you didn’t mention, I’ve finally resigned myself to the designated hitter after seeing too many pitchers get hurt trying to swing a bat or run out a ground ball. And finally, I agree with the idea that MLB should be more kid-friendly. That means daytime games, earlier game times, shorter games, and cheaper prices for kids.
After over 25 years of having season tickets i gave ip this year Rhey begged me to come back They secretly sell tickets 3 rows behind me through Stubhub for $6 and claim the season tickett holders can make “significant money” on the outside market Not only do rhey think we are fools but stupid fools Fyi a bottle of beer is now $10.42 in the staduim named after it Good riddance
Tim,
Grace lucked out getting you as a grandfather! Great article and I especially loved the pics. Nice ice cream tradition and congrats on her success!
