Well done, as always. You did a public service by bringing all of this fact-based history together.
I wonder if this country will ever get around to developing a coherent immigration policy? I know it is not easy to find a way to balance the many competing interests, but. . . . I’m just sayin’ . . . . .
One of your best, Tim. This can has been kicked down the road for the last 5 administrations . . . at least. Lets step up and deal with it. Looking to history, as you did, supplies us with the answers. Our westward expansion with the railroad , Lincoln, was largely on the backs of irish and chinese. The American way is to find a way. Ingenuity. And inclusiveness, not always proud or honorable. But not a wall. Not putting kids in cages. Not flying families to Marthas Vinyards as a political stunt. We ARE better than this, and there is a solution.
Well stated. Let’s lock 6 Democrats and 6 Republicans from Congress in a room and don’t let them out for air until they come up with a viable proposal that will pass and get signed. It isn’t that difficult to fix this. The clowns in DC from both parties have had enough time and incentive to figure out a long term solution. We are an embarrassment to the world with the way it’s been handled.
It’s totally embarrassing that we do not have a vibrant immigration process. Congress needs to work together and get this done. The labor shortage is a real problem. Living in Texas, the Mexicans that have worked for us have been kind, hard working and good at their craft. Let them in through an efficient screening process.
