I agree that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame has become a farce. It includes the ones you mentioned, but excludes a band like Three Dog Night and someone like Warren Zevon. I have found that in my geezer years the genre of music I gravitate to is “Americana.” What is Americana? That’s a good question. It seems to be a bit rock, a bit country, a bit folk, a bit bluegrass, etc. But it seems to include some of my favorites: Josh Ritter, John Hiatt, Allison Russell, Rhiannon Giddens, Brandi Carlyle, Steve Earle, and even Willie Nelson. One current rocker you did not name, who I like is Jack White. What do you think of him? And as an aside: In what genre would Tom Waits fall?
Like the idea of Americana…that could include John Prine, Arlo Guthrie, Waits, more. I think Waits is a rocker myself. At least an influencer. I’ll listen to White and let you know. One of these days we need to get together, start a podcast, and talk music and Card’s baseball, two geezers talking could be the name of the podcast.
Oh, yes, Prine and Guthrie definitely. btw I just saw the new RnR HoF nominees, and Zevon is included (finally). Along with White Stripes (Jack White) and Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson? Is he rock ‘n’ roll? As to your last point, talkin’ music and Cardinals baseball–what could be better!
