Sitting here finding out about yet another horrifying cabinet appointment. I will never understand how my neighbors could vote for such a despicable human being. I am gearing up to continue the battle but it is depressing.
Another great column, Tim. As usual, you have hit the nail on its head. And, YES, it looks like the bullies have won. It is hard to not be discouraged right now or to see what effective thing one might do. Eventually, the MAGA tyranny will oppress virtually everyone, from the wealthy investor to the waitress on tips, but by the time it’s supporters comprehend what they have wrought it will be too late as there will be no way left for the society to ascertain the will of the vast majority because the former institutions of democracy will have been wiped out (e.g., a free and independent press, an independent judiciary, an independent Congress, independent K-12 schools, higher education, scientific inquiry, basically any determiner of facts or source of free thought or factual information). And, of course, elections themselves will be gone. This is bleak, I know. I will make my next message more upbeat, but that may take me a while.Joyce Joyce Rothschild
