Buying the old time player cards made all the difference. Not only did we learn the then-current (now old timer) players, but we learned for example how a Babe Ruth compared to a Hank Greenberg, or a Ty Cobb to a Tris Speaker.
And the frustration led to some creatve cussing. A key skill when you grow old and have to play golf.
